Alone in the dark I sit
listening to the silent stars
screaming through the hushed
darkness in the light of the moon;
and you touch my hand.
Excitement flows through me
until the pain is too much to
bear and I open my eyes
to find that I was dreaming.
Through watery eyes I search
to find a smile in a crowd of
people that doesn’t exist; when
the weight of loneliness finally
hits me I tremble in fear
of days to come – alone.
Quickly I drift out of bed
to draw the curtains and to
close the door – it’s 6:00 am and
the first hint of light threatens
to intrude on the shadows of self-pity
surrounding.
Again I fade off to sleep to
remember the times we were
together and knew each other
in our hearts and in my mind.
